Board Member and Trail Crew LeaderThis is Jacob’s third year working with BFTA and his first as one of the crew leaders. Thanks for all you do Jacob.
For the third time in 2023 the Bigfoot Trail Alliance returned to Lover’s Camp to get our crew into upper Wooley Creek. While our target is one of the most remote trails in California, we are making steady progress in its rehabilitation–this time thanks to our fourth collaboration with the CCC Backcountry Trails Program.
Our solid crew of 14 worked down into Wooley Creek and finally out of the 2014 Whites Fire high intensity burn. Below the 5,000′ level, we entered some low intensity burned forest that offered a gorgeous job site. There was a nice mix of log clearing, brush lopping, and rehabbing the tread. The trail was a big mess and it required that we continually had to find and re-find the old trail. With the excellent work of our crew we cleared 49 logs and treaded 2.5 miles of trail.
Some nights were below freezing and a couple days showed us light rain. The second half of the trip was a perfect 70 degrees days and partly cloudy while maintaining a warming trend at night. The cold snap initiated amazing fall colors and provided unique views over the Marble Mountains.
The Bigfoot Trail would like to spotlight our excellent Trip Leader and Coordinator Petr Fleischmann.
Peter has been a tremendous help to the Bigfoot Trail for the last few years. He is always stepping up to help including cooking excellent food, giving his all on the trail work, and just making us smile around camp. THANK YOU PETR for all you do!
