COVID-19
Well, this will be an interesting and unprecedented season for outdoor recreation, trailwork, and stewardship for all things wilderness. The Pacific Crest Trail is recommending staying off the trail until the COVID-19 situation is under control. They are also saying that all trail work projects are on hold and they will reassess the situation on June 1st.
The Bigfoot Trail Alliance has the same stance. Our work projects are not scheduled to begin until late June — so we are holding out hope. If you do plan to visit the trail, please bring all supplies, make sure you vehicle is in good working order, and fuel up close to home. Please avoid stopping in the small trail towns and–if you must–wear a mask in all stores.

Klamath Mountain Snowpack Update
The news is also grim for mountain snow. The winter of 2019-20 started with a bang but tapered off quickly. February saw NO MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION in Northwest California. A few storms have moved through this spring but the numbers indicate that snowpack levels across the region are between 5-30% of normal. This means the mountains are becoming more and more accessible each day as we move toward the summer solstice.
