View our Crew Leader Resource page

Trail Crew Leaders and Assistant Crew Leaders oversee backcountry trail projects across the wilderness landscapes of Northwest California, working in small, highly skilled teams in remote settings. During the trail season (May–August, with possible extension), crews manage day-to-day field operations, complete multi-day wilderness hitches, and help guide projects safely, efficiently, and with care for the land.

Crew Leaders bring strong trail skills, clear communication, and steady leadership to the field. They support project planning, make daily decisions to meet work goals, and provide oversight and mentorship for crew members and volunteers.

Assistant Crew Leaders support Crew Leaders in all aspects of field operations, helping carry out high-quality trail work while gaining leadership experience and contributing to a strong, collaborative crew culture.

We are seeking seasonal staff for both roles to work a 6 days on / 4 days off schedule on projects in the Yolla Bolly–Middle Eel, Trinity Alps, Marble Mountain, Red Buttes, and Siskiyou Wilderness Areas. These positions are three-month appointments beginning in late spring, with the potential for extension.

Submit your interest and we’ll be in touch by early February.
